Active member of the Avengers (first
recruit, retroactively granted founder status); former founding
member of the Invaders; former unofficial associate of the
Defenders; former mentor to the Redeemers; temporary Secret
Defenders operative; former partner to Bucky, Rick Jones, Falcon,
Nomad and Demolition Man.
A
legendary, patriotic costumed adventurer of the 1940s who carries an
indestructible shield and was gifted with a perfect physique by the
super-soldier serum, Captain America disappeared in 1945 when an
encounter with his old foe Baron Heinrich Zemo left him in suspended
animation.
He
was discovered and revived in modern times by the Avengers, who
accepted him into their ranks after he aided them against his old
wartime ally, the Sub-Mariner. Cap went on to become one of the
team's most invaluable and longest-serving members, frequently
acting as team leader over the years, though he has taken several
leaves of absence of varying duration.

After the
Avengers disbanded following their clash with an insane Scarlet
Witch, Captain America was one of several adventurers who helped
contain a breakout at the Raft super-prison. Following that battle,
Cap recruited most of the other heroes involved in the Raft incident
and convinced them to join him in forming the new Avengers.
The Captain (Steve Rogers)
Costumed alias briefly employed by Steve Rogers when the government
stripped him of his Captain America identity. Rogers took a leave of
absence from the Avengers at this time, and served on only two
Avengers missions before returning to his original costumed
identity.
Nomad (Steven Rogers)
Alternate costumed alias assumed for a short time by Steve Rogers
(the original Captain America) when he became disillusioned with his
country's government and decided to establish a non-nationalist
identity for himself as the adventurer called Nomad. He eventually
returned to his Captain America identity after the murder of a new
would-be Captain America convinced Rogers that he could not shirk
the responsibility of his Captain America guise. Later, the Nomad
guise was adopted by Captain America's one-time partner Jack Monroe
(previously the third Bucky), who recently operated under the alias
of Scourge while serving as a mind-controlled pawn of the Commission
on Superhuman Activities
