General Convention appearance info:
ARCHON 2006
A last-minute addition, but a worthy one! St. Louis's
own SF/fantasy/comics con had me serving on numerous panels, as well as hosting
Marvel vs DC Jeopardy. A great convention!
HEROES
CON 2006
A number of AvengersAssemble! associated folks made the scene at HeroesCon in Charlotte this year.
George Perez was also be in attendance, as well as a ton of other comics
luminaries. The con was June 30- July 2, 2006.
TRINOC-CON

hosted Marvel vs DC Jeopardy again on July 21-23, 2006 in Raleigh, NC.
DRAGON*CON
2006

DC Jeopardy again on Labor Day Weekend, 2006, in Atlanta. Also
served as a moderator or panelist on a number of related panels/discussions.
Previous convention activities:
DRAGON*CON 2005
Thanks to George Kopec for his assistance
again this year with Marvel Jeopardy. What a huge turnout we had!
And more than twenty would-be contestants battled for the right to compete in
the finals. Van also co-hosted a couple of comics discussion panels, as well as
some non-comics panels.
TRINOC-CON 2005 in Durham, NC
This marked the first appearance of
AvengersAssemble! as guests of Trinoc-Con in Durham, NC. What a great
bunch of folks. A good time was had by all.
| DRAGON*CON 2004

 |
Van hosted Marvel Jeopardy and moderated
assorted panels in the Comics and Classic SF tracks. There's George
Kopec in the front row of a Marvel discussion panel we did, helping out
again in '04. |
DRAGON*CON 2003
Van hosted Marvel Jeopardy and
moderated assorted panels in the Comics track.
DRAGON*CON 2002
Van hosted Marvel Jeopardy and moderated
assorted panels in the Comics track.
| DRAGON*CON 2001
|
 |
Van hosted Marvel Jeopardy and moderated
assorted panels in the Comics track and the Babylon 5 track. Inker
extraordinaire Bob Almond was a Jeopardy contestant. |
| HEROES CON 2001 in Charlotte, NC
|
 |
The AvengersAssemble! Website's staff
were guests of HeroesCon 2001 in Charlotte, NC-- they even made
the convention's main theme "The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest
Heroes!" The Con's entirely Avengers-themed program
art can be viewed here. |
| DRAGON*CON 2000
|
 |
This was our largest Avengers-themed event to
date, including the Third Annual Avengers Dinner, with guest Keith R. A.
DeCandido. Marvel Jeopardy and Marvel InQuizition were big hits. |
| DRAGON*CON 1999 |
 |
This year's festivities included
the Second Annual Avengers Dinner, plus two
official, Avengers-related panels: a discussion with legendary
artist George
Perez (the room was full and massively overflowing with fans!) and an AVENGERS Jeopardy trivia
tournament. |
| DRAGON*CON 1998 |
 |
Atlanta's Dragon*Con
1998 was the first-ever official gathering of the AvengersAssemble!
Website staff, members of the Avengers Mailing List, and
other Avengers fans from around the world. The Guest of Honor
was none other than Kurt Busiek (with Van, left), who (along with George Perez and
Tom Brevoort) received custom-designed plaques commemorating their
fabulous work in "Restoring the Avengers to their Rightful
Glory." The Inaugural Avengers Dinner and the first Avengers
Jeopardy Tournament were other highlights of the convention.

The AvengersAssemble! Web site
has won a number of awards over the years. Over time, however, some of the
sites and organizations that bestowed these awards have gone out of business or
otherwise vanished from the Web. The decision has thus been made to cease
the announcing and posting of awards the site has won, and to take down all of
the old ones. That's not why we're here, anyway. This section will
come down eventually, but I will leave this one review quote, going all the way back
to 1998, nearly three years after this site was born (and when it was still
really in its infancy). We've come a long way! --Van
"A gem of a site for Avengers fans of all ages. There are
reviews, FAQs,
character profiles and so much more. It provides a nice blend of text and
graphics so you don't get bored waiting for pages to load. This is run by
people who love their subject matter and can produce an excellent site.
They are only fans, but this is on a par with some major net players."

From Comics International #93, April 1998
From 1996 through 2000, members of the original
Avengers Mailing List annually bestowed the coveted Jarvis-Head Awards
upon the best in comics of that year. The Awards were not held the
past couple of years, but will return soon, so watch this space!
